Doctor in statistics from the University of Montpellier (University of Science and Technology), Nicolas Desassis is a research fellow and head of the geostatistics team at the Geosciences center of Mines Paris PSL.
His research focuses on the development of statistical methods and their application to issues arising from earth and environmental sciences. Among his recent contributions, we can mention the development of geostatistical methods based on Stochastic Partial Differential Equations (in spatial and spatio-temporal context) and the development of geostatistical models based on deep neural networks and associated conditioning methods, especially in the context of inverse problems. Nicolas Desassis is very involved in the development of the gstlearn library, which makes available to researchers and industrial partners of the team, the methods resulting from research in spatial statistics.
